Jim Armstrong

Jim Armstrong started work for FLC as Technical Advisor in September 2021. He is an Alaska resident based in Anchorage, AK. Jim has 19 years of experience working in the federal fisheries management system focusing primarily on scientific and analytical issues. Prior to coming onboard with FLC, Jim was a staff analyst for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council for nearly seven years. In that role Jim developed and presented reports on management issues to the Council and its advisory bodies, provided staff support on scientific research priorities, worked as a coordinator for several of the Council’s plan teams charged with review and recommendations of fishery stock assessments and ecosystem and economic issues. Before moving to Alaska in 2014, Jim lived on the east coast. He was staff for the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council for 12 years and before that worked as a stock assessment scientist for the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. Jim has a BS in Marine Biology and an MS in Fisheries Science. Before starting college Jim served four years in the U.S. Navy spending most of his enlistment as crew on the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.
